I'M DAVID R. STOKES
Ghostwriter, Best-Selling Author & Historian
What I Do
I specialize in MEMOIRS, BUSINESS, SELF-HELP, HISTORY, CURRENT EVENTS, POLITICS, LEADERSHIP, FICTION, & FAITH/INSPIRATION.
A ghostwriter is a person whose job is to write a book or other work ( feature articles, blog posts, white papers, business plans, e-mail campaigns, etc.) for someone else who is the named author. In most cases, the ghostwriter writes the book while the author of the work takes all of the credit and any royalties or proceeds.
It has been very common for decades for politicians (Hillary Clinton & John F. Kennedy), business leaders (Lee Iacocca & Jack Welch), and even novelists (James Patterson & Ian Fleming) to use ghostwriters.
In fact, I’ve written a book (JFK’s GHOST—Kennedy, Sorensen, and the Making of Profiles in Courage) about how John F. Kennedy worked with his own ghostwriter to create a book that won a Pulitzer Prize for biography.
You may be surprised by how cost-effective it is to get your project ghostwritten and published. You may also be surprised that in many cases writing YOUR book can take about the same amount of your time as watching a 10-part Netflix series (spread over about three months).
I’d love to help you write YOUR book, based on YOUR ideas, and in YOUR voice.
[NOTE: Services are also available for short stories, newspaper columns, feature articles, white papers, and other projects that are less-than-book-length.
I’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU ABOUT YOUR IDEA OR PROJECT. YOU CAN SEND AN EMAIL TO: GHOSTWRITERDAVIDSTOKES@GMAIL.COM.
“Agree or disagree with him. But you’ll never walk away from an encounter with David Stokes without feeling the better for it. His erudite writings and civil tongue are a model the rest of us should hope to emulate.”
– RICK SHENKMAN, Producer, Journalist, NY Times Best-Selling Author, and Founder of HISTORY NEWS NETWORK
[BREAKING NEWS: David’s latest book, JFK’S GHOST: Kennedy, Sorensen, and the Making of Profiles in Courage, was published by Lyons Press/Rowman & Littlefield in June 2021.]
IN ADDITION TO HIS GHOSTWRITING WORK, David has written several highly regarded works of fiction and nonfiction, as well as two screenplays.
His first book, THE SHOOTING SALVATIONIST: J. Frank Norris and the Murder Trial that Captivated America (Steerforth/Penguin/Random House, 2011)—a narrative non-fiction thriller set in the 1920s—quickly became a Wall Street Journal best-seller. BOOKLIST, in a starred review, said: “The book is engagingly written, in an immediate, you-are-there style, and the story is as compelling and surprising as any Grisham thriller. Top of the line.”
This book has recently been revised, enhanced (30,000 words of bonus material), and re-released as APPARENT DANGER: The Pastor of America’s First Megachurch and the Texas Murder Trial of the Decade in the 1920s.
